After the shitty day i've had.... it may be tiny bit better
Phoned estate agent and gave em a bollocking and half, and will hear tomorrow from that
Having to hire a car from www.easycar.com which is £150 for 10days, and having to have it for 10 days due to bank holidays and all that malarky but at least will be safe to drive
Staying at a friends house whilst working at the Western from the monday-friday so that saves £200 on hotel otherwise no point me working lol and just booked the hotel for friday & saturday night at Kenton House Hotel £38 a night next to hangar lane, looked a bargain and has excellent write up 259 reviews and only 1 bad one. I'll have it :)
Declans gonna stay with his dad and grandma from sunday to sunday so sorted!! Phew!
Its been a long stressful day. Could do with a beer ;) hehe but I won't

The conventional answer is pretty much what you have done - hire a car for the duration and grin and bear it.
However, I got the impression you were looking for "alternative" solutions. One of those could be to cash in on Vauxhall's "3-day test drive" which could shave something off your rental bill, or if you were very enterprising maybe all of it....
And it sounds like your car needs replacing, so you should be able to hold a relatively straight face when picking up the keys from the salesman....
